Linguistics is the branch of Anthropology that studies the nature, structure, and variation of language. Linguists are not fluent in many languages and are by no means interpreters. Conversely, they are concerned with the description and explanation of the language rather than its rules. A general goal of Linguistics is to find universals in all languages to try and categorize them and study them more in depth with others that are similar or different.

“Anthropology demands the open-mindedness with which one must look and listen, record in astonishment and wonder that which one would not have been able to guess.” - Margaret Mead
